What is Shiatsu?

Shiatsu is a non-invasive massage developed in Japan, closely related to acupuncture. Instead of needles the practitioner applies pressure with hands and thumbs,
and uses simple stretching and manipulation techniques.

Shiatsu has an overall calming affect and supports your immune system, thus it promotes your ability to self-heal.
It can help a wide range of conditions from specific injuries to general symptoms of poor health. Shiatsu can also be received simply as a pleasant way to relax and unwind!

What are the aims of Shiatsu?
The primary aim of Shiatsu is to promote energy flow, which serves to enhance circulation of blood, lymphatic fluid etc. It rebalances the digestive, circulatory, respiratory, nervous and immune systems, which become unbalanced as your body redirects resources to deal with everyday stress.

Background to Shiatsu
Shiatsu combines a 4000 year-old understanding of energy, derived from Oriental medicine, with a modern knowledge of anatomy and physiology. It is one of the fastest growing areas of complementary medicine in the UK.
